“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” ~Edward Everett Hale

This quote to me is an excellent reminder of learning to accept that we don’t have it in us to do EVERYTHING, no matter how much the world tells us that we should be able to! This only serves in helping a person feel inadequate… especially when we buy into that belief. (Been there, bought the t-shirt… returned it cause it don’t fit!) 😉

We are each unique individuals, we are own set of tools. Mine may be designed differently than yours. I might be good with a hammer but you craft the most amazing things with a saw.

When we come together with our God-given tools, or the talents and strengths we were born with, the possibilities are endless!

What is one thing that you really enjoy doing? What’s on your tool belt?

How often have you struggled over a task? The way you interact with others?  Feelings of never being good enough?  Never being able to get it right?

Realizing our inability to be perfect can be a hard pill to swallow.

It may be in our nature to want to do things “perfectly”…  it may have been ingrained in us as children, and try as we might, we fall short…  we may even call ourselves a few choice names, they’re rarely ever pretty.

Even the brilliant phrase “If at first you don’t succeed at first, try, try again”… looked at long enough, carries with it that expectation of perfection.

The feelings that churn within may look like;
–          “Why should I bother?”
–          “I’ll never measure up!”
–          “What’s the point?”

In the midst of this, it’s hard to fathom, or to grasp, something you’ve done right, even when you KNOW you have!

It’s hard enough when those expectations are placed on us by others, but when we place them on ourselves…  Boy HOWDY, what a mess we make!

But what if, just for this one task, this one interaction you affirmed yourself?   What if you told yourself as you headed for that interaction or task “It doesn’t have to be perfect, just give it your best shot”?

–          Could you handle giving yourself the credit for just having tried?
–          Could you leave that task feeling more empowered to do the same on the next?
–          Could you be more successful than you realized you had the potential for?

I can almost hear the joy of that victorious moment, I can hear your “Yes! Yes! Yes!”, see that fist pumping the air, upon achieving that success.

I’ve had those moments…  they aren’t everyday moments, but when I reflect back on them, I give myself the power to keep moving forward, to persevere and in doing so, I set myself up for success.

I have a whole pile of boxes to fill…  I’m about to give myself permission to just gather things and fill the boxes, even while I struggle with the need to organize that stuff so that there will be less work for myself later!  Who’m I kidding?!!   🙂

Are you ready?  What task or interaction are you about to tackle with a renewed sense of purpose? Picture me, cheering you on!

Just write!

Brilliant!!

Cristian Mihai

Odds are that one day you’ll start working on a story for longer than normal. Odds are that you’ll try to make it perfect, even when it’s clear that you’re just afraid to let it go. You’ll fear rejection and bad reviews. You’ll think you’re not good enough to write the story the way it deserves to be written. You haven’t lived long enough and stuff like that.

Maybe you do so because you feel this story’s the “one.” This is the story where you actually say something no one else can, where you leave behind more of you than you’ve done before. It’s the story that defines who you are more than anything else ever written.

Good Morning!!

Welcome to Monday, the start of a new week full of possibilities, adventures & puzzles…

Had a great week in Saint Louis… One of my personal favorite memories of the trip was 3 ladies, jumping out of vehicles in a parking lot & doing the Hokey Pokey. We got a little turned around 😉 (You can believe I was right there in the thick of it!)

So now that I’ve tattled on myself, here are this week’s Positively Thought Provoking Quotes

“The nice thing about teamwork is that you always have others on your side.” ~Margaret Carty

“It is one of man’s curious idiosyncrasies to create difficulties for the pleasure of resolving them.” ~Joseph de Maistre

“Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. The optimist invents the airplane and the pessimist the parachute.” ~Gil Stern

“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” ~Edward Everett Hale

Every individual has a place to fill in the world and is important in some respect whether he chooses to be so or not. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

Feel free to forward this on to those you know who might need, or want a little Monday morning “pick me up”… They can also send me an email asking me to add them to my ever growing list if they so desire! 

You can find more inspiration to get you through a tough moment on my Positively Amazing You!(TM) Facebook page.

Wishing you a week that is filled with an abundance of adventuresome moments,

“I pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion just because of the expression it leaves on my face.”

~Johnny Depp

I don’t know about you, but confusion is not a place that I find comfort in. so when I read the above quote I thought ‘say what?’  I pictured for an instant the joy of sticking one’s tongue out smiling at the same time and thought how confusing THAT could look to somebody.

Maybe that quote is just Depp’s way of embracing the silliness within…  and confusion does resemble silliness sometimes…  perhaps…  maybe…  I could be wrong…  What are your thoughts?!  Are you as confused as I by the thought?  If so, my mission is accomplished, I’m now in good company!  😉

Anyhow, back to the task at hand…  Here are this week’s Positively Thought Provoking Quotes.

“An idea is salvation by imagination.” ~ Franklin Lloyd Wright

“Nothing right can be accomplished in art without enthusiasm” ~Robert Schumann

“The very things that hold you down are going to lift you up.” ~Dumbo

“Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.”

“Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.” ~Judy Garland

“Where there is an open mind, there will always be a frontier.” ~ Charles F. Kettering

The Awe-Manac, one of my favorite quote sources carried the above quote a bit further with what I might call a challenge…. “Go on, Get Your Mind Out. Explore a New Frontier without Leaving the Dip in Your Hammock! Grab Your Mind by the Brilliance!”

Personally speaking, I absolutely love the amazing potential that those words provoke and am getting more and more excited about the “New Frontier of sorts” that my husband and I will be leaving our proverbial hammocks for!

Ok, so back to the task at hand… Here are this week’s Positively Thought Provoking Quotes to see you through to Friday…

“Wisdom begins in wonder, be as you wish to seem”. ~Socrates

“Confusion is the welcome mat at the door of creativity.” ~Michael J. Gelb

“Time cools, time clarifies, no mood can be maintained quite unaltered through the course of hours” ~Thomas Mann

“Creativity is piercing the mundane to find the marvelous.” ~Bill Moyers

“Follow you inner moonlight, don’t hide the madness.” ~Allen Ginsberg :: side note:: picture me, singing along as “Dancing in the Moonlight” plays on my internal radio 😀

May your week be one that is sprinkled with uncontainable joy.

Oh to Scatter Joy!

  • What does that mean to you?
  • How might you apply it in the area you live in?
  • Who’s life might you touch in an incredible way?

These are just a few questions I asked myself when I created the above poster.  I hope they are questions you might embrace each day as you go about your errands, work, commute, etc.

The world needs more joy…

Honestly speaking I try, sometimes even without giving it a second thought, to scatter joy in the lives of those I encounter.  Some days are easier than others, but think about it…  How many people do you know, or are acquainted with, who struggle.

Many, do not share their struggles.  It would seem that their lives are perfectly a.o.k…, on the surface.  But scatter a little joy into it, and you will ease their struggle.

So how might YOU, make a difference?

Scatter joy throughout the world…  in doing so, you will likely scatter joy on yourself, and THAT would be FUN!

Put a Little Spring in Your Step…

I’ve often wondered how that phrase came to be, and while on one hand it sounds really catchy, there’s something about it that seems at times daunting.

Take a person who may be struggling, with grief, with loss, with depression, a condescending spouse, significant other, or boss; how difficult those words would be to hear, much less act on don’tcha think?

The well hid critic within me, rears its head…  “And what about people in wheelchairs, or on crutches, or older people who simply CAN’T as you call it put a SPRING in their step?”

It’s just a thought…  or is it?  How DOES one put a spring in their step?

In MY mind, doing such a thing is an internal happening;  one that isn’t always easy, but under the right circumstances, it is entirely doable.

Just writing about this puts a spring in my step…  I can feel the excitement building as I type, wondering where my thoughts are taking me, and I’m typing laying down, my face alight with a smile bordering on a soon to be escaped chuckle.  Ah, there it goes!  😀

For those who may struggle upon hearing that little phrase, take heart, many of us know how daunting it can be, and yet, if you allow your mind to salivate upon hearing the words…  ponder what they might mean….  your heart may soon be skipping.  Allow a bit of inner silliness to take hold…  You may at that point feel like skipping yourself…  That my friend is when you know the power behind those words.

Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t happen right away, or for awhile….  You’ll get there, and while you’re making your way…  Picture me, cheering you on.

Go on then, put a little spring in your step…  and if you feel like skipping, skip!
