I could have SWORN I heard those precise words in a song at some point, so imagine my surprise when I did a search and came up with nothing but sunshine, lollipops and rainbows! I can hear it in my head sung by a guy, not Leslie Gore.

Feeling determined, I searched for Hillbilly music. I batted a thousand there, though I did find out a lot about Hillbilly music! I went on to search for the words Sunshine & Hillbilly music & came up with a great list of Happy songs about Sunshine. I’m going to have to go back to that list when I’m done!! Oh what a HAPPY list that was!!

I’m past the lollipop stage, so I decided to forgo that as a search & decided to do a search for songs containing the words “Hillbilly Music”.

I don’t know HOW I ended up with “Hillbilly Rock”, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I think I’m going to have to add that song to my road trip playlist. The next song I found was titled “Guitars, Cadillacs”. I froze!

Words to the song played in my head and I thought NO WAY! I can’t have remembered the song wrong! Could I have?? I clicked play, and was swept away. Aside from the words, it was exactly how I remembered it. I really think they got the words wrong, it couldn’t possibly have been me! Regardless, I’m adding it to my road trip playlist anyway.

I wonder if iTunes will let me change the title on my iPhone to Sonshine, Lollipops and Hillbilly Music, cause I may lose my rememberer again! Perhaps I’ll find a way to do a voice over with the correct words. That’ll learn ‘em!! 😀

Sonshine, Lollipops, & Hillbilly Music 😉

Oh to Scatter Joy!

  • What does that mean to you?
  • How might you apply it in the area you live in?
  • Who’s life might you touch in an incredible way?

These are just a few questions I asked myself when I created the above poster.  I hope they are questions you might embrace each day as you go about your errands, work, commute, etc.

The world needs more joy…

Honestly speaking I try, sometimes even without giving it a second thought, to scatter joy in the lives of those I encounter.  Some days are easier than others, but think about it…  How many people do you know, or are acquainted with, who struggle.

Many, do not share their struggles.  It would seem that their lives are perfectly a.o.k…, on the surface.  But scatter a little joy into it, and you will ease their struggle.

So how might YOU, make a difference?

Scatter joy throughout the world…  in doing so, you will likely scatter joy on yourself, and THAT would be FUN!

Today I wish to once again express my deepest gratitude for each and every one of you who pop in, visit, share, and comment…  I am so very blessed to have you here each and every day, or as often as you’re able. 😉  I am truly humbled every time I see a new like, a comment, a link back, etc

This being the day most Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, I thought it would be fun to share a little bit of History I came across.

I’m sure somewhere hidden away in the deep dark recesses of my brain are all the things I’d learned as a child about Thanksgiving, but for as long as I can remember I think I REALLY thought Turkey & Pumpkin pie were ALWAYS a part of the Thanksgiving Feast.  The video I’ve included in this post, I found entertaining, educational, and informative. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

For years on this holiday, I have chosen to wear sweat pants, (mainly so I would have enough room for all the goodies).  I’ve also delighted in going around the table sharing what I’m thankful for.

I’ve learned the positive impact of making a daily list of at least 5 things you’re grateful for.   I try to add to my list each day, though there are times I forget to do this, & fall out of the habit.  So Thanksgiving for me is also a reminder to get back in that groove if I’ve fallen out of it.

Yesterday on my Positively Amazing You! ™ Facebook page, I posted a list of several things I’m thankful for, so I’m going to try to not repeat any of them as I share 5 more.

1.  I’m thankful for books of every kind; they teach me things, or take me to faraway places through the word pictures they portray.

2.  I’m thankful for Movies; they help me laugh, sometimes make me cry, and often teach me other ways to show compassion.

3.  I’m thankful that I was able to get a knee scooter yesterday so that I can get around easier while my ankle heals.

4.  I’m thankful for computers which have the ability to connect us in an instant to people we might never have otherwise met.

5.  I’m thankful for chocolate; hot chocolate; dark chocolate, chocolate milk; chocolate covered marshmallows, etc. all of which helps to keep me sweet.  😉

Picture a table with all of us virtually gathered round.  Are you willing to join in and share with us 5 things you’re grateful for?

It doesn’t matter where you’re from, where you live, or what path in life you’re on. All are welcome to share at our virtual table. Have a seat. There’s a row of coffee urns all set, some snacks to share, & feel free to bring & share your favorite snacks to add to the table as well.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect
before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.
~John Quincy Adams

A few weeks ago, my hubby & I went to see Josh Groban LIVE in concert at the Key Arena.  Having gained a few pounds since the last concert of his we attended, I really wanted to get a new Josh Groban t-shirt from the concert; One that I could wear again and again and again.

The “sour lemon” in this particular instance, was that Art and I had recently began a new way of budgeting, which I was rather excited about, but as it was so new, we hadn’t planned for this particular expense, and through this new ‘program’, if it’s not in the budget, it don’t happen.

352 (2)

The concert was great, and as the evening progressed, so did the desire for that t-shirt.   As we were getting ready to leave, Art said to me; “How often do we attend this kind of event?  I’ve really been wrestling with this all night…  If you really want a t-shirt or souvenir, I think you should get yourself something”.   Though I was excited by this opportunity, I found MYSELF struggling even more.

Walking through to the exit, I didn’t see any open booths, and thought… maybe it just ain’t meant to be.  Inwardly I was relieved, which was really ODD because dadgumit, I wanted that t-shirt.  Lol But there at our final exiting point, was a small crowd, gathered round a merchandise booth.

I stood at the edge of the line, looked at the prices, at wrestled over the decision.  Finally, I turned away, head held high, and said…  “As much as I want one, I’m gonna pass”.  We were out the door within moments and I rushed to the edge of yet another crowd.  This one was one of those that, if it panned out, would produce a rather cool memory.

We waited as the crowd grew, security guards came out, and shooed people away who were not behind the barricade.  We were on the edge of the second row of the group behind the barricade, waiting, talking, reminiscing, and wondering…  I reached into Art’s jacket pocket for the marbles I had asked him to hold for me earlier… “just in case”, I’d said.

After what seemed like forever, a bus pulled up to the gate, and off hopped Josh Groban who, began a speedy process of signing autographs.  I pulled out my ticket and waited.  We were told when he got to the end of the line which was in front of us, he would be leaving…  and so I stood a little taller and as he got closer, I snapped a picture…  my phone chose that moment to die… probably because I took so many pictures during the concert.

Somehow I must have been far enough forward that my ticket was the last to be autographed.  As I held it out for him to sign, I asked if it was okay to give him marbles.  He looked at me, and said, “I WILL gladly take those marbles… I’m ALWAYS losing mine!”

For me, and Art as well, that was a moment in time that will not likely be forgotten, and a story that can be told again, and again.  The cost, was time, and of course marbles ;-);This was indeed well worth passing on the t-shirt for.  Oh, don’t get me wrong…  I still want one.  Lol  I even went on line to see if the one’s from this tour could be ordered; I DO have a birthday coming up… Sadly they weren’t available in the online store….  Yet, but someday I’m sure they will be… until then, I’ll just practice have to persevere with a fantastic memory & story.

Sometimes it’s SO very easy to want things RIGHT NOW.  We’re annoyed & frustrated when we don’t get them.  Yet each of these instance I believe, have within them something to learn from them.  Life’s most difficult lessons are those that are also the most valuable.

Oh, and just for the record…  that picture I’d snapped just before my phone died, required a little patience & perseverance (charging) – I was relieved to see it had indeed made it into my photos!

Take a few moments to think about, share, talk about, etc., those things that have us all atwitter.  If the waiting is the hardest part., what then is the joy that will be found in the midst of that wait?

Music that Heals & Inspires

Woman Listening to Headphones

I LOVE music!!  I can be on the phone with a friend and moments into the conversation, I’m tempted to break out into a song that has suddenly popped into my head based on what they’ve said.  Sometimes I give into the urge, and if I’m lucky, THEY join in! Music simply speaks to my soul.  I’ve picked out a few songs that have always given me a lift…

Lean On Me – “Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow…”
Hero – “And then a hero comes along, with the strength to carry on…”
You are Loved – “If darkness blinds you, I, I will shine to guide you…”
Feelin Groovy – “Slow down, you move to fast, you’ve got to make this moment last…”
When You Believe – “There can be miracles, when you believe, though hope is frail…”
I Can See Clearly Now – “Look straight ahead, there’s nothing but blue skies…”

There’s something about each of these songs that for me, has the ability to soothe, heal, and inspire.  Interestingly, when I first started writing this, “Feeling Groovy” was NOT one I’d considered including.  Like it or not, it persistently stayed STUCK in my head until I relented.  I think there’s a reason, as there is such a reason why each of the other songs made it on the page.

When I think about the song “Lean on Me”, I think… whoever wrote that song, HAS TO have known what it was like to feel pain and sorrow, what it was like to need someone to lean on in times of trouble.  I don’t think there’s a person around who doesn’t need such a person at some point, regardless of whether we THINK we do or not.

When I listen to the song “Hero”, I’m reminded that I have within myself the ability to be… the Hero that lives inside of me, and with that, I know that I can survive… and thrive…  Whoa! Watch me grow!!!

“You are Loved”, also known as “Don’t Give Up” is a song that expresses understanding on soooooo many levels.   It’s sung by Josh Groban & I have to tell you, I have a teensy crush on his voice.  He has a new song that I really like as well called “Brave”….  When I first heard “Brave”, it made me think about the courage it takes each of us to reach out for help in the face of what we don’t understand..

“Feeling Groovy”, reminds me, that I sometimes need to just slow down a bit, stop & smell the flowers, enjoy the moment, that sort of thing, Something I often forget!!

When I listen to the song “When You Believe”, I actually prefer to watch the video of the group Celtic Woman singing it…  It’s purely magical to me for some reason.  The song itself is a song of hope, belief that the dreams I have within me CAN be achieved.  This day, in a sense is part of that dream.

Now I have to tell you, the song “I Can See Clearly Now” provides a bit of a conundrum in that I have a certain passion for rain.  I’ve always loved a good thunderstorm, they in themselves I’ve thought were refreshing, however the more I’ve listened to the song, the more I realized this song isn’t so much about the rain being gone and blue skies…  It’s more about overcoming the obstacles and challenges of life that keep our spirits from shining bright.  When we get over that hurdle…  Oh what a bright, bright sunshiny day it is, despite the weather!

Where WOULD we be without obstacles, without challenges, without hurdles?  Painful as they are as we struggle through them, there is something to be found on the other side of each and every one… something amazingly wonderful and meaningful.  Persevering through and/or past them may make us wring our hands and shake our fists at the sky….  Until you hear the music…  the meaning… in the words that someone penned…

I truly believe we all have a song of sorts within us.  Do you know of a song that could be your life song, the words in it fitting so perfectly?  If you don’t have such a song already, what are some words that would embrace your life, the ups, the downs, the joys, the frowns?

Take a minute to share with us the songs of your life…  Perhaps in doing so, you might find something that soothes, heals, and inspires as well.

The Enviable Power in the Productivity of Procrastination

“There is an enviable power in the productivity of procrastination which can
withstand the most chore laden desires…. I call it, FUN!” ~Sue Anderson

Yesterday a dear friend of mine was looking for a reason to avoid doing something productive. It was a rather eloquently worded plea, and in my quest to respond, I thought “I CAN’T just say For Pete’s sake Procrastinate – that just would have been to boring!” So I started to type and came up with the quote above.

I must’ve thought pretty hard because I SWEAR my brain hurt, I mean I really had to Dig DEEP for that!! lol The bright side of this whole exchange, or so I thought, was that I wouldn’t have to hunt for a quote for today… which meant *I* could skip being productive & go straight to fun!! My brain on the other hand had other ideas & wasn’t finished with me yet…

So there I was ever so proudly having fun, posting my quote and the challenge I came up with for it on every Facebook page I could think of, when out of nowhere came “BLOG!!!!!!! You HAVE TO BLOG this one”. Which caused me to think some more and so here I sit, preparing a blog because I just could NOT allow myself to just blog the quote and challenge… Nope, No way, No how, wasn’t happening!

What IS it about blogging that causes my brain to kick into 6th gear, wanting to create the perfect masterpiece for someone to read. Does anyone else have this problem. Do you find it hard to post something short & simple? I was thinking about this “Keep it Simple” concept earlier yesterday as a matter of fact. I was at that point trying to come up with a better phrase than “Keep it Simple Stupid” because I really dislike that word…

Hmmm… do I dislike “simple” as well.. Could that be the key??

Hold on there, we’re not goin down those tracks today….

I’d be here forever… and you my dear reader, will either be in stitches or long gone…. So I’ll just Keep it Shortly Simple…. There, that’s what I came up with WHILE writing this blog…. The simple concept I’ll explore another day… In the meantime I’m going to take heart and head my own challenge…. Take THAT dear brain of mine!!

How ‘bout you? Are you up for this challenge: Find something productive to procrastinate over while withstanding all those chore laden desires – Be the envy of everyone & have a POWERFULLY FUN weekend!! 🙂

Well??? Hey, no worries if you don’t feel like commenting right now… I mean, that COULD appear chore-ish… unless of course you throw some POWERFUL FUN in there!!!

Here’s to the enviable power in the productivity of procrastination which can withstand the most chore laden desires…. FUN!!!

This is God’s World After All!!!

For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe, I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. ~Psalm 61:3-5 (NIV)

You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He causes me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way. ~Psalm 18:28-36 (NIV)

I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise and I have been saved from my enemies. ~Psalm 18:1-3 (NIV)

The Brotherhood of Shawn & Art

Miles away from my familiar surroundings I found myself at an extended (of sorts) kitchen table eating a scrumptious Spaghetti Dinner in the home of Shawn of Davenport.

Early Saturday morning, I along with Art, his daughter Aubrey, and her boyfriend Adam we set out on a journey “out of dodge”.  This is from everything I’ve learned through the years a regular ritual.

It was at one point during the dinner conversation that the Brotherhood of Shawn and Art came up, totally catching Art off guard.  Secretly I have a hunch about how this came about initially, but I’ll get to that later.

From the other table extension Miranda sat, along with Alysha and their Mom Laurie (THE spaghetti chef), and Shawn.  Now in ordinary times one might not have suspected a thing.  Dinners happen often in this place, the faces may change, but Shawn’s house is a gathering place of sorts.

On this particular occasion however, Miranda kept stealing glances…  back and forth between Art and Shawn her eyes traveled quizzically, focusing longer than anything on Art.  It was truly humorous actually, probably one of those most people would say you’d have to be there to truly experience, but some stories are simply meant to be told.  This is one of those.

Unaware of Miranda’s earlier quizzical glances towards Art, which I wasn’t aware of until this morning, It all made sense.  Miranda you see, was trying unsuccessfully, to solve a puzzle.

After she could take it no longer she finally blurted out the question… “Are you two REALLY brothers”? Art nearly fell out of his chair laughing while asking “Where on EARTH did you get THAT idea?”  Shawn’s reaction though laughing as well, led me to believe, that hunch I had earlier was correct.

If you knew these two guys, for any length of time, you would see that they both have a knack for what some would call “tom-foolery”, Art I KNOW is a MASTER of blarney, he could tell a tale a mile long and have you believing it.  Shawn, from the little I know of him, is much the same.  Indeed these two could be brothers, but they’re not the blood related kind.

The Brotherhood of Shawn and Art began in 2001 when they met through involvement in the Boy Scouts.   It’s no surprise that they became fast friends, and though they now live miles apart, there is a bond that resembles a Brotherhood of Sorts.  They have weathered many of life’s storms through knowing they had one anothers back.  It’s rather neat to see them together.   Their camaraderie is something to be admired!
